Britain risks running out of energy generating capacity in the winter of 2015-16, according to the energy regulator Ofgem.
Its report predicted that the amount of spare capacity could fall from 14% now to only 4% in three years.
Ofgem said this would leave Britain relying more on imported gas, which would make price rises more likely.
OVERVIEW:
The aim of the workshop was to discuss the different roles community groups can play in helping householders or local businesses in Bristol access the Green Deal. It identified some of the issues for community groups, for example legal requirements or in terms of adopting certain structures, if they choose to carry out particular roles. It also briefly explored whether alternative avenues to Green Deal, such as a Bristol ESCO or bulk buying schemes, would better suit community groups.
Bristol has been selected as one of seven English cities to recieved a share of £12 million to kick start the Green Deal.
The city of Bristol, alongside Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham and Sheffield – have put forward ambitious proposals to lower their carbon emissions and this new funding will support their plans to test key elements of the Green Deal.
