Free training for community groups

Bristol Energy Network have organised a series of free training sessions for community groups; groups and individuals working on energy projects have priority but they are open for all.

Would you like help to make your group representative of the population of Bristol?

We all know the importance of ensuring our groups are representative of the population we aim to serve, but how do we make this happen? In this workshop you will learn some practical steps to building diverse, inclusive groups. Session delivered by Voscur.

Building your Group; bringing new people and skills into your group, Sat 28 January, 10am-1pm

Do you need to increase the number of people in your group, or develop a different mix of skills, to run effectively?

Small grassroots groups often struggle to bring new people in as active members. In this workshop you will learn how you can attract new people to your group, utilise their skills and experience effectively and help them develop as members. Session delivered by Voscur.

Powering your projects (fundraising), Tues 17 January, 10am-3pm

Would you like help to raise the funds you need to run your project?

Through this workshop you will learn about different funding sources, the principles of income diversity and how to write a winning funding application. There will be an opportunity to ask questions and share your tips and experiences as well as learning the essentials of fundraising. Quartet Community Foundation will also be giving advice about applying to the Bristol Community Energy Fund. Session delivered by Voscur.

Community powered change: Making decisions that make a difference, Sat 19 November, 10am-5pm

community colab

Many of the complex challenges we face are really urgent: from climate change to fuel poverty, we need action yesterday. But in our haste many are left behind and the decisions we make are poorer for it. After all, how can we create a world that works for everyone if we don’t include everyone in building it? In this interactive workshop we will explore how to encourage deep listening and meaningful participation in meetings, and how to facilitate decision making to ensure everyone’s voices are heard.

This training event is designed for all those curious about new ways of working together, which could include seasoned and emerging leaders, decision and change makers, grassroots activists, organisers and facilitators or those completely new to working in groups. In our design we draw upon emerging social technologies and practices such as the Art of Hosting, ULab and community organising. Our approach is based on  values such as respect, trust and courage and aims to work with people to develop skills in empathy, observation and questionning.

The training is open to all community and non-profit groups but those running a project relating to energy bills, saving energy, energy efficiency or renewable energy will have priority.

Session delivered by Jose Barco, Fausto Peña and Kat Wall, community organisers, facilitators and trainers from Community CoLab.
