Community powered change: Making decisions that make a difference, Sat 19 November, 10am-5pm
Many of the complex challenges we face are really urgent: from climate change to fuel poverty, we need action yesterday. But in our haste many are left behind and the decisions we make are poorer for it. After all, how can we create a world that works for everyone if we don’t include everyone in building it? In this interactive workshop we will explore how to encourage deep listening and meaningful participation in meetings, and how to facilitate decision making to ensure everyone’s voices are heard.
This training event is designed for all those curious about new ways of working together, which could include seasoned and emerging leaders, decision and change makers, grassroots activists, organisers and facilitators or those completely new to working in groups. In our design we draw upon emerging social technologies and practices such as the Art of Hosting, ULab and community organising. Our approach is based on values such as respect, trust and courage and aims to work with people to develop skills in empathy, observation and questionning.
The training is open to all community and non-profit groups but those running a project relating to energy bills, saving energy, energy efficiency or renewable energy will have priority.
Session delivered by Jose Barco, Fausto Peña and Kat Wall, community organisers, facilitators and trainers from Community CoLab.
