Volunteer at Bristol 2015’s Opening Ceremony – contact Emma at emma.thompson@bristol2015.co.uk
2015 is Bristol’s year.
We’re very proud that in 2015, Bristol is the UK’s first European Green Capital.
The award scheme aims to encourage European cities to improve quality of life for their citizens through improving the urban environment.
Why we won
With its high concentration of independent shops, local currency, city farms and extensive parkland and waterways, Bristol has long been a pioneer in sustainable city living. Over 9,000 people are employed in Bristol’s low carbon economy, which has the lowest carbon emissions of major UK cities, and around 50,000 residents already involved in green activities.
Our vision
The award, 2015 and the years following are more than being green and low carbon. It’s about sustainable urban living, making Bristol a happier, healthier city, and sharing our experiences with other cities in the UK and internationally.
Bridging the gap
Bridging the gap is about each of us taking our green intentions and turning them into green actions. Bristol will mark the start of its year in the spotlight as European Green Capital in spectacular style, with an extreme high wire stunt on Saturday 24th January.
You are warmly invited to take part in the opening ceremony of what will be a truly exciting year.
If you are interested in being part of this unique event you will need to be available from 5pm-7pm on the 23rd of January for technical and dress rehearsals and from 6pm to 8pm on the 24th January for the final show.
Stewarding
We are also looking for a team of 20 volunteer stewards (we would love people with previous experience but it’s not necessary) to support the stage management team and to provide information and guidance to the invited audience.
Transport
All volunteer and audience members are being encouraged to make ‘green’ transport arrangements: walking, cycling, buses or ferry, as parking will be very limited.
Additional information
We anticipate cold and potentially wet weather, and the event will go on either way, so please do wrap up warm. We will be providing hot drinks.
If you need to have your expenses reimbursed or support for child care please contact the Volunteer Manager ahead of time and let us know.
We hope this event will be a great spectacle. It will be exciting to be there and to be a part of it. However we ask that you please keep the specifics of the event confidential so that it will be surprise for everyone watching at home and on TV. Thank you.
